If you are importing approved explosives into New Zealand then you need to:
- Obtain a HSNO Import Certificate from ERMA New Zealand. This certificate will confirm whether the explosives are approved under the HSNO Act and will carry an explosives import certificate number. Please allow 10 working days for ERMA New Zealand to process a certificate. Electronic versions of the application form are available in [ word - 63kb] or [ pdf -134kb] form. The fees for an Import Certificate are $112.50 (including GST) for explosives or $56.25 (including GST) for novelty explosives, for further information please see our fees and charges schedule
- In addition, you will need to complete a Customs Entry Permit [pdf - 105kb] if the value of the goods to be imported exceeds $1000.
- If you need to find out whether an explosive is approved under the HSNO Act, check The Hazardous Substance (Fireworks, Safety Ammunition, and other Explosive Transfer) Regulations 2003. These regulations are available through the regulations section of the New Zealand Legislation website. Alternatively a Status of Substance (SOS) request can be made to determine if an explosive is a match to an approved explosive.
- If the explosive is not approved under the HSNO Act then you will need to apply for an approval from ERMA New Zealand.
