Single components have been transferred to the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act 1996.
What is a single component Notified Toxic Substance (NOTS)
For the purpose of transfer, we defined single component NOTS as either a substance with a specified CAS number at 100%, or at some concentration in an inert medium, such as an aqueous solution. The transfer of single component NOTS transfer built upon the 2004 transfer of dangerous goods and scheduled toxic substances.
There were approximately 30,000 single component NOTS that require transfer to HSNO. These included industrial and fine chemicals, outstanding dangerous goods and scheduled toxic substances, pesticide, veterinary medicine and pharmaceutical actives. These substances were included in the Hazardous Substance (Chemicals) Transfer Notice, a copy of which will be available from the Transfer Documentation webpage in late July 2006.
Information on the classification and controls of single components will become available from the Hazardous Substances Register in the second half of 2006.

Information on complying with HSNO
If you are involved in importing, manufacturing, selling, storing, using or disposing of chemcials, then it is possible that you may need to change the way you have done things in the past. For example, changes may be needed to the type of information provided to users and you may need to become an approved handler.
