A reassessment is where the risks, costs and benefits of an approved organism are reconsidered. There must be a change in circumstances before a reassessment can be initiated. Most immediate reassessments will come from the process of transferring existing approvals to the HSNO Act.
The Chief Executive of ERMA New Zealand initiates reassessments of existing organisms. These are taken in order from a Priority List.
There are set grounds in Section 62 of the HSNO Act which must be met before a reassessment can go ahead.
The Authority has to be satisfied that these grounds exist before an approval can be reassessed.
