Contained organisms that have Grounds for a Reassessment

The Authority, of ERMA New Zealand, has determined that the following contained organisms have grounds for a reassessment. These contained organisms have been transferred off the priority list.

Date of initial listing in priority list: 18th April 1999.
Brief title and description of contained organism: Three field trials involving four sites, for the testing of GM canola plants. The trial sites are in North Otago, South Canterbury and Canterbury. The genetic modifications are generally for herbicide resistance. All trials are at the post-trial monitoring stage.
Existing approval number: Field trials 42, 43 and 60.
Status of existing approval:  
Date that grounds for reassessment agreed and application code: 09 August 1999 (REA99002).
Grounds for reassessment: There is insufficient uncertainty as to whether the current monitoring regimes are adequate to ensure that no genetically modified canola seed will germinate in or around the trial site.
Priority order for preparation of full reassessment application: Application will not be made by Chief Executive. Agreement to voluntary post trial monitoring to be sought.
